The story begins when I need to access one internal website on my office. This website only accept Internet Explorer (IE) as the compatible browser. While my PC at the office is using GNU/Linux Ubuntu 12.04. Because of that reason, I need to install Internet Explorer on my Ubuntu.
I decided to choose IEs4Linux. Before you can install IEs4Linux
, you have to make sure that you’ve already installed Wine and cabextract package on your system.
This command will install Wine
and cabextract
on your system:
sudo apt-get install wine cabextract
Next, we’re gonna install IEs4Linux.
wget http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/downloads/ies4linux-latest.tar.gz tar xzvf ies4linux-latest.tar.gz cd ies4linux* ./ies4linux --no-gui --no-flash
I prefer not to choose to install the flash plugin, because that will make my browser crashed. But it’s up to you though. You may want to install the flash plugin if you want.
On some system that have installed a newer version of Wine, may get these error messages:
Your wine does not have wineprefixcreate installed. Maybe you are running an old Wine version. Try to update it to the latest version.
If you got those error messages, you need to create a symbolic link of your winecfg file in /usr/bin/winecfg
sudo ln -sv /usr/bin/winecfg /usr/bin/wineprefixcreate
Retry the installation process.
./ies4linux --no-gui --no-flash
That’s all folks. Now you can try it by typing ie6 on your console.
ie6
Hope it helps.
